It’s a small but telling sign of how many people are trying to make sense of these two conditions, and how much confusion still surrounds them. And the confusion is understandable: both conditions can cause red, inflamed, itchy skin, and both are far more common than most people realize. According to the National Psoriasis Foundation, psoriasis affects roughly 3 percent of U.S. adults, while the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America reports that eczema affects about 7.3 percent.
